What Are The Symptoms And Signs Of Out Of Control Stress?

By Mollie Morris

Everybody experiences stress at different times in their lives. Stress tends to be the norm in our present society. But too much stress can also be harmful to a person's health, contributing to high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. Fortunately, there are many ways to reduce the harmful effects of stress on your body.

Your mind can easily become cluttered, which is a fast track to stress, if you attempt to think about more than one thing at a time. Instead of focusing on many things that you need to do, focus on only one at a time so you will be able to accomplish it easier.

Relieve stress by doing something you like every day. Listen to your favorite music, take a relaxing walk, or sit down and read a good book. Many people say that they are too busy to take time for a break, but doing the things you like to do is necessary to manage stress.

Sometimes, you will get stressed out if you do not have anything to look forward to in the future. If you are dating someone, plan a vacation a couple of months in advance. This will give you something in the future to get excited about every time you feel down.

Stress by any other name is not the same, so stop using the word so much! If you keep telling yourself you are very hungry, before long you will be famished and the same is true for feeling stressed. Saying the word or thinking the word will cause you to feel more of it, so do yourself a big favor and find another name for it!

If you are wanting to reduce the stress in your life, try taking up a fun hobby. Everyone needs an outlet, and hobbies are perfect for that. Try gardening, hiking, photography or writing poetry. Hobbies can give you quiet time to reflect and enjoy some creativity and a little solitude.

Getting a great massage is a fantastic way to reduce stress. Massage is very relaxing and will help reduce blood pressure and help you get more sleep. Stress causes muscle tension and headaches. Massage will relax the muscles and will help reduce pain and aches throughout the body, leading to a less stressful mind.

If in any way possible, take a short nap during the day when you are feeling stressed. If your body is exhausted, you are sure to feel more susceptible to stress. During sleep, your conscious mind will rest and your unconscious mind can find the solutions to the situations that are causing the stress.

Some activities that seem to be harmless can actually increase or cause stress. You might play video games to help you unwind and relieve stress, but if you are sitting and playing for five or six hours a day, you are cutting into the time you need to take care of yourself and increasing your stress. You could be losing out on time for sleep, or time to eat a healthy meal.

Every night before you go to sleep, make a list of that day's most stressful events. Identify the long-term issues that you can do nothing about and eliminate them from the list. Next prioritize those that are left by writing the solution to each item. Begin with the little things and concentrate on solving at least one item on the list the following day. Soon you will see your daily cares melting away instead of growing into mountains by being proactive and focused.

If you are fatigued, try to eliminate some of the stress that may be causing it. Fatigue can have a direct association with stress. When you are stressed it is difficult to sleep, even difficult to relax. It is as though your body is constantly fighting a battle with some unseen force. The result is an overwhelming sense of exhaustion.

Prolonged stress can effect every area of your life including your health and relationships. Dealing with stress in a healthy way enables you to feel empowered and in control. It will also help you improve close relationships and reduce the long term effects that it can have on your body.
