Here are 5 glorious and natural bath recipes to help calm down after a long day.
SLEEPY TIME HERBAL BATH 4 tbsp dried chamomile; 3 tbsp dried lemon balm; 2 tbsp dried passion flower; 1 tbsp dried valerian
If you just can't seem to unwind after a particularly stressful day, and your mind is going a million miles a minute, spend a few minutes in the kitchen whipping up a batch of this calming, herbal bath mixture. Just add a few tablespoons to your hot bath. You can use or substitute several different mixtures including chamomile, lemon balm, hops, lavender, sandalwood, marjoram, passionflower or valerian as they all promote relaxation - the choice is yours.
HERBAL FIZZY BATH BOMBS 1/2 cup baking soda; 1/2 cup lemon juice; 1/2 tsp sweet almond oil; 8 drops an essential oil of your choice*; 2 drops food coloring (optional)
Mix these ingredients into a doughish consistency and shape into small balls or use a cute shaped muffin tin. The baking soda in these bombs make them fizz when they are dropped in the water. Make sure that the essential oil you choose is safe for direct skin contact.
SOOTHING MILK BATH 1 cup boiled water; 4 cups powdered milk; 1/2 cup dried chamomile or 5 chamomile tea bags
Boil the water and make a tea from the chamomile leaves or bags. Add the powdered milk to the strained tea, stir, then mix into your warm bath. The milk is great for softening your skin and the chamomile will help you relax.
AFTER BATH BODY MOISTURIZING MIST 1 tablespoon of grape seed oil; distilled water; 1/4 cup of witch hazel; 1 tbsp of your favorite scented oil (my favorite for this is vanilla)
I love to use this mixture after my bath to moisturize my skin because it's so easy to make and feels great on my skin. All you have to do is mix the ingredients up and pour them into a spray bottle, shake well and spray yourself.
WAKE UP BATH 5 drops rosemary essential oil; 3 drops peppermint essential oil; 2 drops spruce essential oil; 1 tbsp vinegar
Baths don't always have to be for bedtime. If you're feeling a bit overwhelmed or lacking in energy, take some time out, pour a warm bath and add the above ingredients. You'll be amazed how invigorated you'll feel after.
THE BATH OF MILK AND HONEY 4 tbsp honey; 1 quart boiling water; 6 tablespoons dried milk powder
Mix the honey and boiling water together until the honey dissolves, then let it sit and cool. Add the milk power after the honey water has cooled and mix together. Mix it into your bath until dissolved and slip on in. The milk and honey will help moisturize your skin and is especially good for those dry winter months.
If you enjoy making your own gifts, all these bath recipes (except for milk based ones) are great for gift giving. Put them in a fancy container and make them look decorative and you have a great homemade gift for family and friends.
*When you an essential oil for scent, read warnings about use. Some oils are not intended to have direct contact with skin. Avoid rosemary and peppermint essential oil's if you are pregnant or nursing.
