What Is The Raw Food Diet?

By Jack Wogan

Perhaps every couple of days you find yourself in the kitchen chopping meat and vegetables for cooking. What if one day you decided not to put them in the boiling water and started eating them as they are? Maybe fruit are always appealing in their raw form, carrots, too. But how about the other aliments?

This idea is the base of the raw food diets. More than five million years ago, the human beings have began their existence on earth. Their menu included fruit, roots and raw meat. According to their geographical location this menu had different ingredients, but they were all eaten as they were found in nature. The period of time since we have started cooking our food represents just one twentieth of the human history.

It is only normal to start wondering why did fire change our menu so drastically in the past 250000 years, since before that for an extremely long time we lived, thrived and evolved only on raw food? That is the scientific base on which the raw food diet has started gaining adepts. Unlike the vegans, who pay attention to what they eat, but still cook their vegetables, those who eat raw food have nothing against meat, but are definitely against heat cooking. That is why they eat mostly fruit, seeds, nuts, vegetables, seaweed and freshly squeezed juices.

Apart from those, the persons who have become aware of the deficiencies this type of eating could cause have also adopted eggs, fish and raw meat as part of their menu. Dairy products in their most natural form, like milk, are also accepted by those who have opted for this lifestyle.

Detoxification of the body is the major advantage of the raw food diets. As you can imagine, since you have eaten for so long food with a certain toxic content, that process could be a little painful. Still, it is worth going through it, because it offers great results. You will gain in energy level while you will lose fat in an accelerated rhythm. Add to that the fact that the risk of heart diseases diminishes, too. Even if in this diet you have to eat large amounts of food, some people could appreciate that.
