Richardson Chiropractic Care Helps Relieve Back Pain Safely

By Jorel Tuyor

Many people suffer with the nagging discomfort of back pain in its numerous forms. There is a large number of conditions which can contribute to this problem and in many cases it becomes chronic. Not everyone is comfortable with having to depend on medications or undergoing surgery. Fortunately they can choose a more natural approach through therapy with a Richardson chiropractor.

Chiropractic care is centered around the understanding that the health of a spinal column determines the health of the rest of a body. A chiropractor's job is to maintain optimal functioning in the spine through natural, manual therapeutic techniques. This approach not only keeps the back pain-free, but ultimately influences total well-being.

The practitioner will first need to evaluate the patient's condition to identify the reason for the pain. Chiropractic care always seeks to eliminate the causative factor rather than just reduce the symptoms it creates. Through a physical examination and specific diagnostic tests the condition will be determined and then a course of therapy will be prescribed.

In cases where the pain is found to stem from misalignment of the spinal vertebrae or a herniated disc, spinal adjustments are normally the first approach taken. The practitioner will manually apply a force to the affected area of the spine to bring about realignment and normal mobility. Pain is alleviated as pressure on surrounding nerves is relieved.

Traction can also be effective as a means of easing back pain, specifically that caused by a herniated disc. While the patient is positioned on a traction table, a force is applied to the spinal vertebrae which gently pulls them apart and forms a vacuum which in turn sucks the disc back into place and eases the pain it is causing.

The soft tissues of the back can also be to blame for some types of pain, if this is the case, therapeutic techniques such as cold laser, massage, or ultrasound therapy may be used. A Richardson chiropractor will carefully assess each patient's case and determine how he or she can best help the patient. A remarkable improvement should be noted after several weeks of receiving care.
