Several Misconceptions Regarding Pilates System

By Jerri Eide

An increasing number of people are taking sessions of Pilates midtown east. One who has no idea about it may wonder what is the reason behind its rising popularity. Several misconceptions must be cleared in order to find out.

Its history could be traced back to earlier twentieth century. This was designed by a German named Joseph Pilates. It strengthens abdomens, hips, back, and arms. It focuses more on the core muscles with proper alignment of the pelvic and spine. The connection of mind and body is emphasized in this type of workout.

The first common myth is that anyone can be a guru on this by just going through educational materials such as a book or a DVD, or by having a crash course on it. This is definitely not true. The fact that there is no regulation has brought about this. A fully certified instructor would have to go through several studies. In fact, one has to have anatomical knowledge to be certified. Other areas such as personality studies are required as well as this is needed for proper teaching.

Hardcore weight lifters think that this system is designed only for women. This is because little to no weight is needed to execute it. That is very wrong. The one who invented it is a man and he has undergone many forms of fitness systems before he perfected his own. In fact, highly athletic individuals who performed this for the first time are very surprised when they find it hard to keep up with.

There are many who think that weights are always attached to every physical fitness routine. Hence, they think that it is only for those who are weak. This is brought by ignorance and lack of experience. It is mainly because it is very adaptable. Specific routines are designed for every endurance level. Thus, anyone, regardless of his athletic capability, always has a right program for him.

This method is great for flattening the stomach area. Most would think that it is only confined to that. However, for every body movement, the core is responsible for supporting it. Thus, this method targets different parts of the body that strengthens them as well.

Most of its routines require one to go through certain postures just like yoga. Hence, it is thought they are connected to each other. However, yoga and Pilates experts know that the truth is far from it as both have different targets and routines.

Anyone wanting to consider this can find many fitness centers catering Pilates midtown east. It would be normal for any individual, no matter his fitness level, to get surprised of the tasks during the first time. Those who have tried it are the reasons why it is gaining more popularity.
