CRASH! Suddenly your life can change from wondering where you are going to eat for lunch to "OH GOD, ILL NEVER GET THROUGH THIS!" " to, "WHAT DO I DO UNIVERSE? ?, I AM ON THE BRINK OF A MELTDOWN! !". After an accident things can get real complex Some of the simple life stresses disappear and you are now facing some seriously stressful situations This sounds crazy, but our thoughts get the best of us especially in high stress situations.
It super simple and can sometimes be overlooked. Keeping a tight rein your thoughts after a car accident can keep you in a state of peace. During an accident your thoughts can get so loud that it keeps you from being able to effectively handle the situation.
Lets make believe.
Your car traps you in with a crushed driver side door. There is crushed glass everywhere. Someone ran a stop sign and plowed into your car, and now your mind begins to create negative thoughts. "I'm dying! " "My heart is beating so fast am I having a heart attack? " "My arm hurts, oh god it must be broken" "My insurance premiums are going to go through the roof ." "This wasn't my fault, but no one is going to help me! " those kinds of thoughts do nothing to help your situation. HERE is the first thing to do
TAKE A BREATH. focus on your breathing and everything else falls away. This allows you to bring your attention back to the present moment Take a deep breath and count to 4, Breathe out then count to six This will keep the fearful thoughts from clouding your judgement.
BE PRESENT. Thinking that you should have made a left turn instead of a right and you'd wouldn't be in this mess is a waste of a thought. There is nothing you can do in the moment to change what has already happened. So forgive yourself and allow yourself to focus on the present moment. All the "should of's" and "could of's" are now in another dimension and are inaccessible.
ACCEPT do not RESIST. To hate the fact that you are dealing with an accident is understandable. Resistance causes more suffering. There is a peace that comes with accepting where you are. You don't have to like it, but when you accept where you are, you are able to stop denying the reality you are currently living in and you are able to think clearly. You are then able to make the appropriate choices in order to change your circumstances. We cannot change the world, until we look within ourselves and change how we see the world, and through this we truly change the world.
BE THANKFUL. If it wasn't a serious accident, we sometimes forget that it could have been a lot worse. If you can walk, talk, breathe, and your car just has some dents in it... Sounds like you got fewer things to worry about then some people who don't make it out of an accident.
Life is a gift if we choose to see it that way. It's that simple.
